Making a Grid Map: At the Zoo

Build a map to navigate a fun-filled zoo in this geography worksheet! Students will start by cutting out each map square on the first page. Then, learners will assemble the zoo map on page 2 by reading the clues. Clues will either provide coordinates or use cardinal directions to guide students’ efforts.

Geared towards second and third graders, this hands-on activity helps students understand how to read a grid map. As learners become more familiar with grid maps, they can progress to reading and using more complex, detailed maps. Map skills are vital for elementary students to develop, as they can be applied both inside and outside of the classroom.
