Read and Understand Folktales: An Ant's Voice
How does an ant scare away a lizard, a warthog, and a tiger? In this folktale, the ant makes himself at home in the lizard’s cave, using his loud voice to scare away the other animals. Then, when the frog approaches, a trick of the light makes his shadow look huge! The ant surrenders and leaves the cave, much to the surprise of the other animals.
Once students have read the folktale, they will answer a page of comprehension questions about the passage. Learners will recall details and explain why certain events occurred, laying the groundwork for more in-depth analysis in future lessons.
