Worksheet
Syllable Sums: Happy Halloween
Counting syllables doesn’t have to be scary! In this first- and second-grade worksheet, learners will count the syllables in eight Halloween-themed words, such as bat, spider, and October. Each word contains 1, 2, or 3 total syllables. Once students have counted the total number of syllables, they will write their answers on the blanks.
This practice helps early readers identify and count syllables, which strengthens phonemic awareness and develops early literacy skills. Splitting words into syllables can also empower students to decode longer, unfamiliar words they may encounter while reading.
