Word Family Homes: Short i

It’s time to clean house and get rid of all of the words that don’t belong in each word family! In this worksheet, students will look at six houses that represent short i word families like -ib, -ig, and -in. Learners will need to decide which of the three pictures belong in the houses and which do not. This worksheet includes short words like crib, pig, and fin. 

Intended for kindergartners and first graders, this worksheet is a great resource for giving students practice decomposing short words into their constituent sounds. Learners can use isolation and segmentation to build their phonemic awareness. They can also learn to use word families to identify rhyming words.
