Worksheet
Word Inspector: The Case of the Broken Syllables #1
Welcome to the case, Word Inspector! Some of these syllables have been split strangely, and your help is needed to sort them out! Students will examine each of 15 words and decide whether the syllables have been divided correctly. If the word checks out, then the case is closed! If not, learners will need to rewrite the word on the line with the correct syllable division.
This worksheet is perfect for third, fourth, and fifth graders working on their syllable skills. A strong understanding of syllable division can improve students’ ability to break apart and decode unfamiliar words. This skill can also help them recognize patterns in words, including affixes.
