Worksheet

Zoom In: Writing Small Moments

Practice adding details to narrative writing with this worksheet for third, fourth, and fifth graders! To start, students will choose a big event from their life, such as a new friendship or a fun trip. Then, learners must select three small moments that happened during the experience. Students will then “zoom in” to one of the small moments and answer questions that help describe the moment in greater detail.

By adding details about specific events and experiences, upper elementary students can craft more realistic characters, settings, and scenes in their writing. This allows for richer imagery and more engaging writing, helping learners to become better storytellers.

Learn another narrative writing technique with Ending Strong: Narrative Writing. Then, learners can put their new skills to the test with Personal Narrative Writing Prompt: Brave Beginnings: First Try.
