Glass Hanging Candle Holder

What You Do:

1. Instruct your child to measure and cut a piece of wire that is three feet long. He can use a twelve-inch ruler to do this, or if you have a yard stick, he can use that. Be sure to point out that three feet equals one yard.
2. Hold the baby food jar at approximately the halfway point on the wire.
3. While you hold the jar still, instruct him to bend the wire in half, wrapping it tightly around the top of the baby food jar.
4. Have him wrap the wire twice around the baby food jar to ensure it holds well.
5. Once the baby food jar is secure, he should form the rest of the wire in a coiled circle shape above the glass jar. The circle does not need to be perfect; it won’t exactly be staying that way.
6. To add the beads to the wire, he'll need to decide where he wants the beads to be, and then create crimps in the wire to hold the beads. To do this, help him create bend sections of the wire completely around to create a small loop.
7. He can add as many loops and beads in the wire as he wishes. The beads added to the wire can all be the same size, or a variety of sizes and colors.
8. Once your child is done adding beads and loops to the wire, he'll need to bring both ends of the wire back together at the top of the circle above the glass jar. Help him twist the two ends of the wire together tightly so that they hold. If one end of the wire ended up being longer than the other, use the wire clippers to trim the ends.
9. When the holder is completely finished, have him carefully drop a tea light candle into the jar.
10. To hang the candle holder, simply loop the wire over the hook or branch that he wishes to hang it from.
