What better way to get into the spirit of the Winter Games than to relax with homemade popsicles while you cheer on your favorite athletes from all over the world? Make your own juice popsicles modeled after flags from other countries to celebrate world cultures. Can your child guess where each popsicle is from?

What You Need:

  • Popsicle tray at least 4" deep
  • Plastic wrap
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Juices in a variety of flavors and colors like red, orange, yellow, and blue

What You Do:

  1. Decide which flags you want to use for your popsicles. Look up the flags of different countries online for inspiration. Striped flags, like the French, Mexican, or Dutch flag, work really well for this activity.
  2. Have your child pour a small amount of the first juice in the popsicle tray. The juices in your popsicles will be layered, so this will be the first stripe.
  3. Seal the tray with plastic wrap and make sure it is tightly on. Place a rubber band around the plastic wrap and tray to help keep it sealed.
  4. Ask your child to carefully poke one popsicle stick through the wrap and into each popsicle section of the tray. The plastic wrap needs to be very tight in order for the stick to stay straight up.
  5. Place the popsicle tray in the freezer and let freeze completely.
  6. After the first layer is completely frozen, remove the plastic wrap from the tray and pour the next juice on top. The popsicle stick should be stuck solidly in the ice.
  7. Place the tray in the freezer again and let it freeze completely.
  8. If you are doing three layers, repeat steps 6 and 7 with the last kind of juice.
  9. Once the last layer is nice and frozen, carefully remove the popsicles and serve. Which countries' flags do the differrent popsicles represent?

Now you have a sweet and healthy treat to help you cheer on your favorite teams!
