Go to any length to test your students' understanding of perimeter calculations. Students will use their understanding of the perimeter of rectangular shapes to create rectangles that have different side measurements but equal perimeters.

In this lesson, your students will calculate and illustrate area for rectangles using area models, where one side length includes a fraction.

2D shapes are all around us! In this lesson students will explore the properties of four different shapes—triangles, circles, rectangles, and squares! They will learn that they can find these shapes anywhere in the world around us.

Your students will become junior math detectives as they hunt down the missing side of a rectangle by applying the area formula for rectangles. The only clues they have are the rectangle's area and the measure of one side.

Allow your students to explore the pros and cons of different strategies used to find the area of rectangles. Use this as a stand alone lesson or as a pre-lesson for the Multiplication and Area in the Community Garden lesson.

Facilitate rich math conversations with this lesson on finding the missing information in problems related to the area of rectangles and squares. It may be taught by itself or used as support to the lesson Finding Area: Furnishing A Room.

Start a dialogue around area models! In this lesson, encourage students to ask questions as they multiply using area models. Use this lesson on its own or as support to the lesson Area Models and Multiplication.

Area models are building blocks to more complicated multiplication and division. Use this lesson to refresh students on the relationship between multiplication and area to prepare them to use the area models strategy with larger numbers.
