Students will explore self-esteem through the book I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont. They will write secret kindness notes to others and to themselves, and reflect on how self-esteem can support connection with oneself and the community.

In this lesson, students will hear the story Lovely and work in small groups to create a book or a symbol of appreciation for others' differences. Students will consider how appreciating differences supports community and relationships.

Words can uplift others, but they can also cause harm. In this lesson, students will hear the story Desmond and the Very Mean Word, and they'll discuss the power of positive and negative words in friendships, school, and community.

Verbs are the only kind of word that have tenses. Some of them are standard and easy to learn, while others are irregular and tricky. This lesson will review verb tense changes that follow the regular pattern and those oddballs that don't.

In this lesson students will complete an activity called "Raise Your Hand If You..." and be able to define the word “assumption.” This lesson supports the practice of compassion for oneself and others.

Resolving conflicts and forgiving others is a powerful lesson in the story "The Forgiveness Garden." In this lesson, students will read the story, discuss conflict resolution, and practice forgiveness tools.

Kids will enjoy hearing the story On Market Street as they become familiar with goods and services. From apples to zippers, students will understand how people buy goods, and how others provide services in our lives.

Playing make-believe and telling stories are favorite childhood pastimes. Thus, no matter their reading level, students will love the opportunity to “read” to others and explore pictures as they take a walk through books.
