Make equivalent fractions matter in the real world with this hands-on math lesson! Students use measuring cups and spoons to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.

Finding the area of a rectangle is a key measurement skill to know. In this lesson, your students will enjoy practicing this skill by determining the area of their classroom.

Empower students to think like mathematicians by having them create word problems related to subtracting mixed numbers. Use this lesson on its own or as support to the lesson Subtracting Mixed Numbers Using the Decomposition Strategy.

Get your students comfortable discussing their math thinking in converting centimeters to meters. This lesson may be used on its own or as support to the lesson Converting Metric Measurements to Decimals & Fractions.

In this lesson, students will recognize volume as an attribute of solid figures and learn to calculate volume by counting cubes. This is a great introduction to the formula V = L x W x H.

Students will solve area problems by multiplying side lengths for rectangular shapes in real world contexts.

Marry metric measurements to the everyday world around you! Use this lesson plan to teach your class the fun of converting metric measurements into fractions.

Students will begin to calculate volume of different rectangular prisms using base ten cubes and then transition to using the formula V = L x W x H. Students will then practice using the legendary fifth grade activity, Cootie Catchers.

Students will practice calculating volume as an additive property by making mock hamster mansions from boxes. Groups will calculate the volume of living space that they designed for their hamster in cm³ and document their work.

Challenge students to convert measurements between their metric counterparts! Students will relate the measurements to real-world objects. Use this lesson as support for the Converting Metric Measurements in Word Problems lesson.

This experiment is a fun lesson that captures the ears, eyes, and minds of students! It combines writing, reasoning, predictions, and teamwork with candies and soda to produce a memorable lesson on chemical reactions and energy.
