Go to any length to test your students' understanding of perimeter calculations. Students will use their understanding of the perimeter of rectangular shapes to create rectangles that have different side measurements but equal perimeters.

Your students will become junior math detectives as they hunt down the missing side of a rectangle by applying the area formula for rectangles. The only clues they have are the rectangle's area and the measure of one side.

Facilitate rich math conversations with this lesson on finding the missing information in problems related to the area of rectangles and squares. It may be taught by itself or used as support to the lesson Finding Area: Furnishing A Room.

Students will solve area problems by multiplying side lengths for rectangular shapes in real world contexts.

Practice calculating perimeter with the placement of carnival-themed games with given rectangular dimensions. Your students will use grid paper to determine the location of all the games they choose to make the perfect carnival.

Students will use the inverse relationship between multiplication and division to complete an area formula in a real-world situation. Use this lesson on its own or as support for the lesson The Case of the Missing Rectangle Side.

Let your students decorate their own room with this lesson that has them use area to place furniture in a room.

Can your students associate similar adjectives and nouns using the roots and suffixes? In this lesson, students will learn how to associate nouns with adjectives. Along the way, they will use the roots and affixes to determine the meaning.

Finding the area of a rectangle is a key measurement skill to know. In this lesson, your students will enjoy practicing this skill by determining the area of their classroom.

Teach your students to find the perimeter of polygons using real world examples. They will make polygon pictures using tangrams and practice finding the perimeters of the polygons in their masterpieces.

In this lesson, your students will think about situations that require them to calculate area. Use it as a standalone lesson or as support to the What Is the Area of Your Classroom? lesson.

Solve for the sum of two mixed numbers! They will use scaffolds such as fraction models to support the visualization of mixed numbers. This can be used on its own or as support for the lesson Sums for Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions.

Are these fractions really equal? Use this lesson to introduce the concept of equivalent fractions with your students. Teach this on its own or use it as support for the lesson Equivalent Fractions Using Area Models.

This lesson helps your students become confident mathematicians when it comes to representing fractions visually in a variety of ways. Use this lesson as a pre-lesson to Fraction Hunt or teach it independently.
