Reader's Theater Fluency Practice: Cleaning Up is Hard to Do

In this reader’s theater, two siblings find out just how hard it is to keep a house clean! Johann and Grizelda’s parents task them with cleaning the house, but their attempts are thwarted by well-meaning relatives and the family dog. There are 10 characters for students to play, including three narrators and a chorus.

This three-page script was written with third and fourth graders in mind. As they perform this reader’s theater, learners can practice reading aloud with expression, clarity, and accuracy. Acting out a text can also encourage students to engage with the passage on a deeper level, helping to strengthen reading comprehension skills.
