Pom-Pom Garland

This homemade pom-pom garland requires very few materials and instantly brightens up a room with Easter-themed pastels. Your child will hone her fine motor skills and learn about colors and patterns while making this decoration. When it’s done, you’ll have a fuzzy, lightweight decoration to string across the wall, or use as a boa for pretend play!

First Grade

What You Need:

  • Pastel pom poms
  • Thread in white or clear
  • Blunt needle
  • Scissors

What You Do:

  1. Cut a long length of thread, and help your child thread the needle.
  2. Have your child lay the pom-poms in a pattern she likes. This is a great time to teach patterns with letters, by assigning a letter of the alphabet to each color. She can then see which order she likes, such as “ABCABC…” or “AABBCC…”
  3. Show your child how to thread the needle through the middle of the pom-poms.
  4. Once she has a long garland made, she can tie off the end with a knot, and hang it up horizontally or vertically!
