Encourage student explanations and visual representation of fraction subtraction in this interactive lesson. Use this lesson on its own or as support to the lesson Modeling Mixed Number Subtraction.

Fractions are everywhere! In this hands-on lesson, your class will work together in groups to find real-world examples of fractions. As they discover more complicated fractions, students will create their own word problems with them.

Give your students practice creating models with fractions from recipes! Your students will build an appetite for learning all about fractions, while “filling” measuring cup models with different ingredients to represent fractions.

Review halves, thirds, and quarters with this activity that gives hands-on students a way to learn about fractions actively.

Multiplying with fractions may seem easy to your students, but challenge them with this engaging lesson that requires them to write their own word problems!
