Students are going to take a deeper dive into fractions in this unit! Learners will apply previous understanding of finding equivalent fractions, and converting between fractions and mixed numbers to work with fractions in more complex ways. Students will continue to use visual models to learn and practice adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.

This guided geometry lesson takes second graders on an exploration of 2D and 3D shapes. Kids will learn how to sort shapes, as well as partition them into halves, quarters and thirds. Understanding our base-ten number system is the foundation for many skills to come. In this unit, students will add on to their understanding of place value and extend to the millions! They will also learn how to read, write and order larger numbers, in addition to decimals to the tenths and hundredths.

Representing data on graphs makes math visual and involves some creativity and design. Plotting data using fractional units takes their learning one step further. Also in this unit, students learn to measure using both traditional units (like inches, feet and yards) and metric units, and how to convert measurements within each system. The concept of measurement gets two dimensional when students explore measuring and working with angles.

In this 5th grade division unit, students will take their understanding to the next level by applying division skills with multi-digit numbers. Students will also begin to explore division with decimals and practice using estimation to check the reasonableness of their answers. Last, students will use their knowledge of the base ten number system to divide decimals by base ten exponents (i.e. .4 ➗ 104).

Geometry in third grade introduces kids to the idea that shapes have different categories (rectangles, rhombuses, etc..) attributes (four-sided, etc...) and areas of different values.
