Go to any length to test your students' understanding of perimeter calculations. Students will use their understanding of the perimeter of rectangular shapes to create rectangles that have different side measurements but equal perimeters.

In this lesson, your students will calculate and illustrate area for rectangles using area models, where one side length includes a fraction.

Your students will become junior math detectives as they hunt down the missing side of a rectangle by applying the area formula for rectangles. The only clues they have are the rectangle's area and the measure of one side.

Facilitate rich math conversations with this lesson on finding the missing information in problems related to the area of rectangles and squares. It may be taught by itself or used as support to the lesson Finding Area: Furnishing A Room.

Start a dialogue around area models! In this lesson, encourage students to ask questions as they multiply using area models. Use this lesson on its own or as support to the lesson Area Models and Multiplication.

Area models are building blocks to more complicated multiplication and division. Use this lesson to refresh students on the relationship between multiplication and area to prepare them to use the area models strategy with larger numbers.

Students will solve area problems by multiplying side lengths for rectangular shapes in real world contexts.

Practice calculating perimeter with the placement of carnival-themed games with given rectangular dimensions. Your students will use grid paper to determine the location of all the games they choose to make the perfect carnival.

Teach your students the power of persuasion by preparing them to write persuasive letters. This lesson, complete with brainstorming activities, allows young writers to unlock their inner rhetoricians.

Students will use the inverse relationship between multiplication and division to complete an area formula in a real-world situation. Use this lesson on its own or as support for the lesson The Case of the Missing Rectangle Side.

Let your students decorate their own room with this lesson that has them use area to place furniture in a room.

Compare two different ways to use tape diagrams! This lesson discusses fractions and multiplication within tape diagrams. Use this lesson as support for the lesson Illustrating Fractions and Whole Number Products with Tape Models.
