Is your child a true diva who’s always trying to stay on top of the latest trends? Does she keep up with the recent fashion crazes and makeup styles? Why not nurture her love of style and encourage her to develop her own creative flare by mixing nail polish colors.
What You Need:
- Different colors of nail polish
- Paper
- Pencil
- Colored pencils
- Cotton balls
- Nail polish remover
What You Do:
- Start by allowing your child to pick out different nail polish colors she’d like to use.
- Before having her apply any of the nail polish choices to her nails, encourage her to trace out an outline of her hand onto a piece of paper.
- Allow her to experiment with different color choices on her paper hand by blending colored pencil strokes into the area where her nails would be. She could blend different shades of single colors to achieve a gradient appearance or combine completely different colors to achieve some more thematic outcomes. Example: Browns and greens could be used to create a more earthy appearance, grays, blues and greens could be used to create an ocean-inspired appearance, or purples, pinks, and oranges could be used to create a sunset-inspired appearance.
- Once she has decided on the color blends she would like, help her apply the nail polish choices to her nails using the picture she made of her hand as a reference.
If she would like to try a different blending of colors at some point, hand her some cotton balls and nail polish remover so she can remove the existing color blends and start over. Encourage your child to be as creative as she’d like with this activity as the possibilities are endless.
