Classifying figures by features is a fundamental geometry skill. Use this lesson plan to teach your students how to categorize triangles by internal angle types.

2D shapes are all around us! In this lesson students will explore the properties of four different shapes—triangles, circles, rectangles, and squares! They will learn that they can find these shapes anywhere in the world around us.

You'll see angles from every angle! Students will describe and compare different angles they see in everyday situations. Use this lesson on its own or use it as support to the lesson Classifying Triangles by Internal Angles.

Help your students get comfortable with 2D shapes using this fun arts-inspired lesson plan!

Use a scavenger hunt, art activity, and stickers to help kindergarteners understand shapes and positional language.

Sorting takes on a new challenge for students in this activity which engages their critical thinking skills. As students determine defining attributes, they’ll figure out what makes a shape a shape!

In this lesson, your students will become familiar with shapes by identifying them in real life. Your students will love identifying how many sides shapes have by drawing and counting them!

Students will explore geometric shapes by creating a painting of a trapezoid.

Shape up your students' understanding of geometrical attributes with this hands-on math lesson. Students will gain a better understanding of how to describe a shape by the number of edges and vertices it has, rather than by its name.

This lesson helps students understand the difference between polygons. It focuses on the root words of these terms to help students make connections to their prior knowledge, making it especially beneficial for ESLs.

It’s magic! In this lesson, students will “magically” move shapes together to form new shapes. Clay and toothpicks equal hands-on fun! Tangram challenges are provided for those students who need that little extra challenge.

Let's get clapping! Help students extend their knowledge of patterns by using rhythm. After making musical patterns, students will translate the patterns into shape patterns.

Your students will solve and create shape riddles while practicing their knowledge of shape attributes.

Your students will have a blast thinking about polygons and making these paintings inspired by Wassily Kandinsky!

A hands-on approach makes geometry fun! Use this lesson to teach your students about the basics of perimeter with geoboards.

Practice drawing and identifying shapes with your class as they become master dance choreographers!

Make a math mystery! In this lesson, help your students understand the relationship between addition and subtraction and how a missing addend word problem is represented with a number sentence.

Teach your students about symmetry with real life objects! Have them draw lines of symmetry for various shapes, food items, and objects.

Meet the “-at family” with music, movement, and simple worksheet activities! In this lesson, your students will practice their reading skills with rhymes.

On some level, all humans want to feel peace and to feel loved. In this lesson, students will practice sending peaceful thoughts to themselves and others and discuss how these practices can support peace in their lives and community.

This snazzy lesson features Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons by Eric Litwin. Your students will love practicing their classification skills while playing with buttons of their own.

In this fun lesson plan, your students will love learning all about describing location using games, stories, and dancing! This can be used as a stand alone or pre-lesson for the Where is It? lesson plan.

Symmetry is everywhere, but it's often hard to notice. This lesson explores a few ways to identify it. By folding and making mirror images for different shapes, students will discover a new world of symmetrical figures.

Students will have fun engaging in activities that develop their ability to write sequential step-by-step directions. This lesson helps young learners with being detailed and using transition words in their writing.

Shapes, shapes everywhere! In this lesson, your students will identify shapes and differentiate between the geometrical figures. They will also learn about sides and angles in every shape.

Teach your students to find the perimeter of polygons using real world examples. They will make polygon pictures using tangrams and practice finding the perimeters of the polygons in their masterpieces.

Students will love composing shapes using tangrams in this hands-on lesson! Use this plan alone or as a support lesson plan for the Tangrams: An Ancient Chinese Puzzle lesson plan.

Kindergarten students will love becoming the Easter Bunny’s assistant as they design their very own Easter egg patterns!

In this lesson, your students will break down composite figures to identify 2-D shapes that make them. Students will put together 2-D shapes to create a composite shape.

Introduce your class to composite shapes with this lesson that reviews geometric shapes and makes use of tangram puzzles. This lesson will give your students a strong base for learning geometry later on in their school careers.
