Sorting takes on a new challenge for students in this activity which engages their critical thinking skills. As students determine defining attributes, they’ll figure out what makes a shape a shape!

In this lesson, your students will become familiar with shapes by identifying them in real life. Your students will love identifying how many sides shapes have by drawing and counting them!

Students will explore geometric shapes by creating a painting of a trapezoid.

Shape up your students' understanding of geometrical attributes with this hands-on math lesson. Students will gain a better understanding of how to describe a shape by the number of edges and vertices it has, rather than by its name.

This lesson helps students understand the difference between polygons. It focuses on the root words of these terms to help students make connections to their prior knowledge, making it especially beneficial for ESLs.

Your students will solve and create shape riddles while practicing their knowledge of shape attributes.

Your students will have a blast thinking about polygons and making these paintings inspired by Wassily Kandinsky!

A hands-on approach makes geometry fun! Use this lesson to teach your students about the basics of perimeter with geoboards.

Make a math mystery! In this lesson, help your students understand the relationship between addition and subtraction and how a missing addend word problem is represented with a number sentence.

On some level, all humans want to feel peace and to feel loved. In this lesson, students will practice sending peaceful thoughts to themselves and others and discuss how these practices can support peace in their lives and community.

Teach your students to find the perimeter of polygons using real world examples. They will make polygon pictures using tangrams and practice finding the perimeters of the polygons in their masterpieces.

In this lesson, your students will break down composite figures to identify 2-D shapes that make them. Students will put together 2-D shapes to create a composite shape.

Introduce your class to composite shapes with this lesson that reviews geometric shapes and makes use of tangram puzzles. This lesson will give your students a strong base for learning geometry later on in their school careers.

Practice subtraction with art! Help early learners grasp the concept of "taking away" using drawings. This lesson helps students work toward subtraction with numerals, and the mastery of simple shapes.

What's in the bag? This fun math lesson involves using defining attributes as clues to draw conclusions. Young learners will have a great time making guesses about different objects and creating their own shape riddles.

This lesson integrates phonemic awareness and phonics. Using a number of exciting activities, your students will learn about two consonants that come together to make a digraph.

Finding the perimeter of a polygon is a simple process with addition! Use this lesson to teach your students how to find the perimeter of polygons.

This lesson teaches students the basics of capitalization. Get your young writers engaged in writing fun sentences as a class before they write their own, using correct capitalization of course!

Where's the other half? In this lesson, young mathematicians learn the relationship between halves and symmetry through a fun scavenger hunt. Your students will have a blast figuring out what makes a shape symmetrical.

In this fun blending lesson, students will get a chance to read and spell grade level words. This can be used as a stand-alone lesson or support for the Cooking Up Blends lesson plan.

This lesson on perimeter will let your students walk around the class to see the border, use a measuring tape to measure the walls in their classroom, and enable them to understand how math is related to real life!

Mae Jemison was the first African American female astronaut to enter space. Use the Get to Know Mae Jemison lesson plan to learn more about this famous scientist. Children will then read and write about her, and create their own paper rocket.

Double dominoes! Get your students excited to add with dominoes and playing cards. This lesson is a fun way to help your students continue to learn to add.

Number facts are related, just like families! Help students learn all about fact families while they make fact family trees!

Geometry is a core of mathematics in the early years. Help students recognize and draw shapes given specific attributes such as the number of corners and sides. This lesson can be a stand-alone activity of paired with 2-D Shapes!
