Let's divide! In this hands-on lesson, your students will get in on some fraction action when they pair up to create and compare fraction models with the same denominator.

Go to any length to test your students' understanding of perimeter calculations. Students will use their understanding of the perimeter of rectangular shapes to create rectangles that have different side measurements but equal perimeters.

In this lesson, your students will calculate and illustrate area for rectangles using area models, where one side length includes a fraction.

2D shapes are all around us! In this lesson students will explore the properties of four different shapes—triangles, circles, rectangles, and squares! They will learn that they can find these shapes anywhere in the world around us.

Your students will become junior math detectives as they hunt down the missing side of a rectangle by applying the area formula for rectangles. The only clues they have are the rectangle's area and the measure of one side.

Allow your students to explore the pros and cons of different strategies used to find the area of rectangles. Use this as a stand alone lesson or as a pre-lesson for the Multiplication and Area in the Community Garden lesson.

Facilitate rich math conversations with this lesson on finding the missing information in problems related to the area of rectangles and squares. It may be taught by itself or used as support to the lesson Finding Area: Furnishing A Room.

Start a dialogue around area models! In this lesson, encourage students to ask questions as they multiply using area models. Use this lesson on its own or as support to the lesson Area Models and Multiplication.

Area models are building blocks to more complicated multiplication and division. Use this lesson to refresh students on the relationship between multiplication and area to prepare them to use the area models strategy with larger numbers.

Let your students learn how to find the area of rectangular objects by doing hands-on activities. Your students will love finding the area of various rectangular objects around the classroom!

In this lesson, your students will become familiar with shapes by identifying them in real life. Your students will love identifying how many sides shapes have by drawing and counting them!

Students will solve area problems by multiplying side lengths for rectangular shapes in real world contexts.

Bring on the polygons! Your students will build their understanding of polygons and sort shapes into categories based on their attributes in this lesson.

Teach your students about the shapes that make up the world around them with this lesson that has them identify shapes in the classroom and in drawn scenes.

Practice calculating perimeter with the placement of carnival-themed games with given rectangular dimensions. Your students will use grid paper to determine the location of all the games they choose to make the perfect carnival.

Teach your students the power of persuasion by preparing them to write persuasive letters. This lesson, complete with brainstorming activities, allows young writers to unlock their inner rhetoricians.

In this lesson, your students will make healthy choices by sorting healthy and unhealthy foods that they eat daily! Students will learn to sort data by color and many more categories!

“Gong Xi Fa Cai, Hong Bao Na Lai!” This means "Happy New Year, Give me my red envelope!" Students will count coins and write the value all while learning about the Chinese New Year tradition of handing out red envelopes filled with money.

Valentines come in all shapes and sizes, but the most precious are those spoken from the heart. This Valentine’s Day lesson plan will require students to verbally name and describe shapes based on their characteristics.

Students will use the inverse relationship between multiplication and division to complete an area formula in a real-world situation. Use this lesson on its own or as support for the lesson The Case of the Missing Rectangle Side.

Let your students decorate their own room with this lesson that has them use area to place furniture in a room.

Compare two different ways to use tape diagrams! This lesson discusses fractions and multiplication within tape diagrams. Use this lesson as support for the lesson Illustrating Fractions and Whole Number Products with Tape Models.

Let's get clapping! Help students extend their knowledge of patterns by using rhythm. After making musical patterns, students will translate the patterns into shape patterns.

Help students visually represent multiplication with mixed numbers and whole numbers. Use this lesson as a standalone lesson, or as support for the lesson Multiplication of Mixed Numbers with Area Models.

Sorting takes on a new challenge for students in this activity which engages their critical thinking skills. As students determine defining attributes, they’ll figure out what makes a shape a shape!

Teach your students to compare fractions using symbols ( >, < = ) in three easy steps. Using this lesson plan, your class will compare like fractions using tape diagrams.

Teach your students to predict and explain features of scaled regular shapes.

Looking for a fun way to reinforce multiplication and area finding skills? This hands-on lesson gives students a chance to create their own multiplication equations by making rectangular models.

You need the length and the width to find the area of a rectangle or square, but what if one piece of information is missing? Use this lesson alongside What's My Area? or on its own.

Identifying shapes and colors will come easily to students after listening to songs, playing bingo, and coloring a worksheet!
