This Christmas deck the halls with charming snowflakes you and your child can make together. This whimsical craft is simple enough for kids and uses materials you probably already have lying around the house.
What You Need:
What You Do:
- Help your child choose and print a snowflake template on a sheet of white paper (the thicker the paper, the better.)
- Have her follow the snowflake instructions to fold and cut the template.
- Let her unfold the template and press it as flat as she can down on the ironing board.
- Show her how to place a sheet of wax paper below and on top of the snowflake. The wax will protect the paper snowflake from the iron.
- Help her iron the snowflake completely flat.
- Let her layer a sheet of newspaper on a table to create her decorating work space. She should put the now flat snowflake on the newspaper.
- Have her use glue to draw narrow patterns, dots or other designs on the snowflake.
- Now for the fun part! Have your child pour the silver glitter over the enter snowflake.
- Show her how to gently lift and shake the snowflake to remove the excess glitter.
- Leave the snowflake to dry for a couple of hours.
- Have your child then punch a hole in the top of the snowflake.
- Help her use string to tie a know through the hole. She's ready to hang up her beautiful winter snowflake.
You can't just make one snowflake! Help your child experiment with different templates and paper sizes to create a snowy winter wonderland right in time for the holidays.
