Your budding artist can cut and fold his way into making this spooky hanging spider mobile, honing his fine-motor skills and concept of balance. Only a few materials are needed to create this fun and festive Halloween decoration!
What You Need:
- Wire hanger
- Black construction paper
- Scissors
- Craft needle
- Google eyes
- Glue
- Black thread
- Tape
What You Do:
- Invite your child to learn more about what a mobile is by heading to your local library to check out pictures of famous mobiles or by researching online. A mobile is a balanced, moveable sculpture that can move freely.
- Now that your child can envision a mobile, he can gather the materials for making his spooky spider mobile. Spiders have eight legs and lots of eyes, so encourage your child to be creative with his arachnid creations!
- Invite him to cut the circular bodies for the spiders along with several strips to use for creating the spiders’ legs.
- Now he can begin folding accordion style the strips and attaching them to the sides of each circular spider. Folding hones fine-motor skills as well as concentration!
- To finish the spiders, your child can glue a few googly eyes to the spiders’ bodies.
- Now your child can tape a 1- foot length of black thread to the back of the spiders with the googly eyes facing down.
- Invite your child to hang the spiders at different lengths along the hanger creating a balanced arrangement and then find the perfect place to display the spooky spider mobile.
