At a carnival, the ring toss is always a favorite game for everyone to play, but it can be difficult - even for adults! This activity will increase the chances that you and your child will succeed. This is a great game to play outside on a warm summer day. You'll keep those bodies moving and you'll get some practice in before the fair comes to town! Here's how to play.
What You Need:
- 1 large, empty soda bottle or a plastic orange cone
- 1 plastic hoop
What You Do:
- Place the soda bottle or plastic cone on a flat surface with plenty of room surrounding it.
- Have your child stand opposite the bottle or cone – a short distance away.
- Give your child the hoop and invite him to try to toss the hoop over the cone or bottle.
- After an unsuccessful try, simply retrieve the hoop and have him try again. (Or for more physical activity, your child can get it himself.) Don't be discouraged - practice makes perfect!
- With each successful try, he can take a step further away from the cone or bottle to make things more challenging.
This simple game reinforces the concepts of over and around and, as your child practices underhand throwing, he is developing eye-hand coordination.
