Tissue Heart

What You Do:

1. Have your child fold the sheet of construction paper in half.
2. Help him draw half of a heart on the paper. The starting and finishing point of his heart half should be on the folded edge of the paper.
3. Let him use scissors to cut out heart half. When he unfolds the shape, he should have a full heart.
4. Help him cut out squares from the tissue paper that are roughly one inch wide on each side. Don't worry about measuring or keeping each square the exact same size.
5. Have him rub the glue stick on a quarter-sized portion of the paper heart. You don't want him to glue the entire heart because the glue will dry too quickly.
6. To create his three-dimensional tissue clusters, have your child put the eraser side of the pencil in the center of one of his tissue squares.
7. Let him twist the pencil gently so that the sides of the paper rise up. Have him continue to do this until the paper is fully twisted around the pencil. 
8. Have him press the wrapped tissue onto the glue patch on his paper heart, eraser-side down.
9. Help him slowly remove the pencil, leaving the tissue behind.
10. Have him repeat this process until the entire heart is covered with textured tissue paper.
