The next time you're ready to put on a show, let your fingers do the walking with this crafty puppet! Your child can draw and decorate these easy paper puppets to wear on her finger and use for pretend play. Now her puppets will have complete freedom to hop, skip and jump all over the stage while she unleashes her imagination.

What You Need:

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Posterboard or cardstock
  • Markers or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Fabric scraps, yarn, googly eyes and other craft items

What You Do:

  1. Have your child brainstorm what kind of puppet she wants to make, whether it's a person she knows or an animal she loves. Then she can start sketching the puppet on paper, keeping in mind how she wants to decorate it later.
  2. When your child gets to the legs and feet of her puppet sketch, she can stop and draw two small holes, about the width of her finger.
  3. Next, she can cut the puppet out and place it on a thick piece of cardstock to trace.
  4. Help your child cut out the puppet and the two holes at the bottom.
  5. If your child would like her puppet to wear clothing, she can cut some out of fabric and glue them onto her puppet.
  6. Now she can color in the puppet and decorate it with hair and eyes if it's a person, or fur if it's an animal.

You can even make some paper shoes for your puppet to keep her feet warm!
