What happens when students explore their senses on the inside? This lesson encourages students to look at, listen to, and feel what is happening on the inside through practicing mindfulness. 

Mindfulness: The Outside and Inside Present

Learning how to distinguish between facts and opinions is critical for the development of communication and social skills. In this lesson, students will learn the difference between facts and opinions through play and pictures.

Just the Facts, Please!

In this lesson, students will learn how their breath can be their greatest friend. They will practice and learn how to use their breath when they feel tense or overwhelmed, just like a magical tool!

My Magical Breath

Students will hear about the benefits of mindfulness from JusTme's rap song, "I'm Inspired", practice mindfulness and the STOP tool, and then write raps of their own, encouraging others to practice mindfulness and the STOP method. 

Tools to STOP

What are the tools of mindfulness and building community that support greater ease and connection? In this lesson, students will reflect on the mindfulness and social emotional learning tools they have learned through song and sculpting. 

Reflection on Mindfulness and SEL Tools

In this lesson, students will hear the story "The Way I Act" and complete two activities connected to the story. They will practice mindful breathing and explore how to have more control over their bodies, behaviors, emotions, and choices.

The Way I Act

The peace corner is a space where students may practice previously taught calm-down methods, such as deep breathing and mindfulness. Students will draw a picture of themselves in the peace corner and practice in small groups.

In this lesson, students will explore and discuss the term "empathy" by hearing stories from two different perspectives and identifying the feelings of each of the characters. They will also discuss what it means to be true to ourselves.

When emotions take over, drawing or writing in a journal can help to process them. In this lesson, students will identify different emotions and design a journal to use when they feel strong emotions.

Positive role models can have a powerful impact on individuals and society. In this lesson, students will reflect on the term "positive role model," discuss positive role models in their lives, and research positive role models in history.

In this lesson, students will learn about the importance of doing one thing at a time and listen to the book *What Does It Mean to Be Present?*. Then, they will experience the inefficiency of multitasking by doing three things at once.

One Thing at a Time

We all have our own home of feelings inside, like a shell that we can tuck into when needed. This we learn from turtles, and now your students can too. This lesson helps students access that place inside full of feelings, emotions, and thoughts. 

Mindfulness: A Home Inside

In this lesson, students will explore how sadness, loneliness, gratitude, connection, and love feel in their bodies. They will also learn about negativity bias and practice “soaking in the good” by savoring positive feelings.

In this lesson, students will discuss similarities and differences in a fish bowl activity. They will also learn tools to practice gratitude for each other's differences and similarities.

On some level, all humans want to feel peace and to feel loved. In this lesson, students will practice sending peaceful thoughts to themselves and others and discuss how these practices can support peace in their lives and community. 

We Are Peacemakers

Often, it's difficult to see mistakes and failures as opportunities to grow! In this lesson, students will practice having a growth mindset and looking at mistakes as opportunities to learn. They'll consider how challenges grow their brain.

Mistakes Help Me Learn

In this lesson, students will read the story *My Many Colored Days* by Dr. Seuss, and reflect on the many different feelings we may experience. They will use body maps to color in where they may feel different emotions in their body.

Are you a bucket filler? Children with good social skills lift each other up with compliments and praise, instead of put downs and negative comments. Use this lesson to teach your students about bucket filling and how to compliment others.
