How to Make a Time Capsule

What You Do:

1. Help your child cover the outside of the jar with white construction paper.
2. Let her use scissors to trim the paper.
3. Have her use tape to secure the white construction paper.
4. Now that she has a covering for her time capsule, she needs to decorate it! Let her use crayons and colored pencils to draw the current year as well as some of her favorite books, TV shows, songs, etc. of this year. 
5. Help her fill the time capsule with all her favorite memories: photographs from a recent birthday party, ticket stubs from the zoo or the movies, tiny craft projects, newspaper clippings and other reminders. If she wants it in her time capsule -- and if it can fit -- put it in.
6. Store the time capsule in a safe place. While traditionally time capsules are buried in the ground, simpler options include a high shelf in a closet or a tucked away corner of a garage. Just make sure you write down where you put it. A forgotten time capsule is not fun for anyone.
7. Decide when you will open the time capsule together. She can wait a year, two years or even more!
