Your child can transform a recycled can into a painted pumpkin candle holder perfect for Halloween! This is a great way for your child to recycle cans as well as light your walkway this Halloween.
What You Need:
- Sketch paper and pencil
- Empty and clean can
- Orange and black acrylic paint
- Newspaper
- Wire
What You Do:
- Invite your child to wash and dry an empty can to use for his colorful can candle holder.
- Encourage your child to place a couple of sheets of newspaper underneath the can before painting. Now he can cover the outside with orange paint and let dry for about a half an hour.
- Now your child can use a piece of sketch paper and pencil to draw ideas for the type of pumpkin face he’d like for his can creation. Once he’s happy with a design, he can get out the black paint as well as a smaller brush.
- Invite your child to carefully paint the face on the orange can while concentrating on making a fun pumpkin face. Encourage your child to take his time, honing his concentration skills as well as find-motor skills.
- Once his can pumpkin is dry, offer your child a length of wire to twist around the top of the can as well as making a handle for the candle holder.
- Now your child can place the pumpkin candle holder along the front walk hanging from a tree limb or hook and have an adult place a tea light in the can and light perfect for lighting a walkway for Halloween!
