With little monkeys who love to climb in the house, it’s no wonder most parents seek out unbreakable Christmas ornaments. These festive little nut balls are not only indestructible, they’re fun to make!

What You Need:

  • Walnuts in the shell
  • A handheld nut cracker or sharp knife
  • Thin ribbon
  • Craft glue
  • Rubber bands
  • Assorted paints: red, green, and silver
  • Paintbrushes
  • Newspaper
  • Glitter (optional)

What You Do:

  1. Line your workspace with newspaper.
  2. Carefully crack the walnuts in half along the midsection.
  3. Remove nutmeats and set aside for another purpose (like lunch!)
  4. Brush off any crumbs.
  5. Cut a short length of ribbon and twist in a loop.
  6. Place glue along edge of one half of the shell. Place ribbon loop at the top of this glue. Place other walnut half on top. Rubber band tightly to hold both halves together while the glue dries.
  7. When thoroughly dry, remove rubber band.
  8. Paint ornaments and sprinkle with glitter if desired. Let dry completely, then hang on tree.
