With the holiday season coming up, chances are, you're probably starting to wrap gifts for friends and loved ones. Buying wrapping paper from the store is all well and good, but this year, why not add some personal flair to the gifts by making your own? Making wrapping paper is a fun activity that will let your and your child put your own spin on gift-giving. And it's not very hard to do! Encourage your child to personalize his presents with this salty and simple wrapping paper. Get glue, cookie cutters, and salt together, and he'll be making unique and eye-catching wrapping paper to make any gift more special.
What You Need:
- Cookie cutters
- Glue in a shallow pan or plate
- Colored, butcher paper, cut in large pieces
- Salt in a bowl
- Plastic spoon
- Newspapers
What You Do:
- Lay down newspapers over your work area. Spread the butcher paper out onto a flat surface.
- Dip the cookie cutter into glue. Tap it lightly on pan edge to remove excess glue.
- Place the cookie cutter onto butcher paper, creating a glue print.
- Use a variety of cookie cutters and cover the paper with prints.
- With a spoon, sprinkle the salt on the glue prints. If you like, pour salt into saltshakers, empty candy sprinkle containers, or glitter containers, and cover some of the holes with tape to control the amount of salt released.
- Move the paper around to disperse and pour off extra salt.
After glue dries, the paper is ready to use! For winter holidays, try doing this activity on plain foil wrapping paper to add a little sparkle.
