Snack Box Bookmarks

What You Do:

1. Dig out your empty cereal and snack boxes from the recycling bin and have your child cut the logos and mascots out.
2. For shaped bookmarks, cut around the images. For traditional rectangular bookmarks, simply cut the boxes into short strips.
3. Have your child punch a hole in the top of each bookmark.
4. WIth the leftover scraps of cardboard, cut out a 5x5 inch square. This will help your child create the yarn tassles.
5. Cut a piece of yarn about three feet long, and wrap it around the cardboard square.
6. Next, cut two 4" pieces of yarn and slide one piece under the yarn wrapped around the square. Tie it twice to make a strong knot.
7. Cut through all the looped yarn on the opposite side of the cardboard square. Your child should now have many short pieces of yarn tied together.
8. Tie the other 4" piece of yarn around the tassel, slightly lower than the first knot. Tie another double knot, and trim the ends.
9. Push one the end of one of the pieces of yarn at the tassel through the hole in the bookmark.
10. Tie the yarn off in a double knot, and trim the ends.
