As students progress in their typing skills, they&#39;ll want to branch out from the home row. This lesson introduces young typers to the top row on a keyboard, allowing them to expand their typing vocabulary and gain independence as computer users. These lessons will help kids exercise correct finger placement, typing accuracy, and speed.

Typing Top Row 1

Grammar is an essential part of the second grade language arts curriculum. Second grade phonics covers more advanced rules that build upon kids' foundational reading skills, such as vowel pairs (ai, ee, ea, oo), long and short vowels, and the silent E. This year, third graders will build a stronger understanding of division. This guided lesson uses the repeated subtraction strategy as a way of teaching division. Sight Words 1

In this unit, students will build on their understanding of decimals by working with numbers that include decimals in tenths, hundredths and thousandths place. Adding, subtracting and rounding with decimals will enable them to apply the strategies in new ways and enhance their understanding of the base-ten number system.

This literature lesson guides kids towards a deeper understanding of second grade texts through an exploration of character, setting, and plot. Kids will be challenged to answer the who, what, where, when and why of a story, in addition to determining the story's message. Two versions of the same story will be presented in order for second graders to see story elements in action.

Literature 1

This year, second graders will be introduced to the concept of multiplication using repeated addition. For example, they will learn that 5+5+5+5+5 is the same thing as saying 5x5. This guided lesson will use manipulatives to teach kids about repeated addition and give them plenty of opportunities to practice addition within 100. Addition 3

Teaching number sense gives kids a deeper understanding of our number system, which will in turn prepare them for the algebraic equations to come in the upper elementary grades and middle school. Number Sense 2

Students are going to take a deeper dive into fractions in this unit! Learners will apply previous understanding of finding equivalent fractions, and converting between fractions and mixed numbers to work with fractions in more complex ways. Students will continue to use visual models to learn and practice adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.

Fractions 4

This typing lesson helps kids practice typing using keys in the top row of a computer keyboard. Using a series of interactive exercises, kids will gain confidence typing top row keys with speed and accuracy. Typing Top Row 2

Representing data on graphs makes math visual and involves some creativity and design. Plotting data using fractional units takes their learning one step further. Also in this unit, students learn to measure using both traditional units (like inches, feet and yards) and metric units, and how to convert measurements within each system. The concept of measurement gets two dimensional when students explore measuring and working with angles.
