Fish Craft

What You Do:

1. Have your child draw a fish shape onto felt, making sure it’s small enough to live in the jar.
2. Cut out the fish shape, then trace it on the felt again and cut another one out, so you have two identical fish.
3. Have your child lay the goldfish body shapes side by side, facing the same direction.
4. Squeeze some glue onto the center point of one of the fish, and press a small ball of white tissue paper onto the glue.
5. Next, cut out some fins with yellow or orange tissue paper. Glue them in place on the same fish with the tissue paper stuffing.
6. Now your child can glue a short piece of yarn to the top of the fish, which it will hang by when it’s in the jar.
7. Squeeze a line of glue around the inner edge of the goldfish body, covering the fins and yarn as well.
8. Place the other side of the body on top and press down tightly so the stuffing, fins and yarn that are sandwiched in between. Allow to dry completely.
9. Attach two googly eyes to the head.
10. Tape the top of the string to the center of the inside of the jar lid.
11. Now your child can start painting her favorite underwater scene. She can cut out a piece of paper and use watercolors to make a creative backdrop of the fish. Wet the paper with clear water before painting for a watery effect.
12. Allow the painting to dry, and then tape it to the back of the jar so it shows through at the front.
